GABRIEL SUMMIT HONORS ITS PIONEERS

Celebrating 75 years of the snow school

Sainte-Adele, December 30, 2019 - Proud to be a pioneer in teaching skiing in Quebec, Sommet Gabriel will celebrate this Saturday, January 4, 2020, the 75th anniversary of its snow school.

Detail of the event
A day full of special activities is planned for Saturday, January 4, from 9:00 to 19:00 to celebrate its 75 years of history. Friendly race, rally for children, meeting between former instructors, ski sessions and festive happy hours are on the menu. Customers, former employees, and friends of the mountain are invited to take part in the celebrations.

A fascinating story
Since its inception, the Sommet Gabriel ski school has partnered with industry leaders, and successive directors from 1954 to 1980 have all been inducted into the Laurentian Ski Hall of Fame. First of all, remember that it was Marie-Joséphine Hartford who had Victor Nymark build the Auberge du Mont-Gabriel in June 1936. It was not until 1944 that the mountain welcomed its very first ski school director Mr. Hans Faulkner, previously instructor at Ober-Gurgl in the Tyrolean Alps. At that time, the hill had only five tracks: Obergurl, Standard, Tamarack, Scott Slip and Hush-Hush. It was not until 1947 that the very first female instructor, Audrey Scott Staniforth, joined the boarding school team. Several well-known personalities were students of the snow school, including the very famous American Senator Ted Kennedy and his family (1960s) as well as the family of Pierre-Elliot Trudeau.

The incredible landscapes, its easy access and its proximity to Montreal make it a destination of choice." explains Louis Dufour, president of C.A. les Sommets.

“This ski school has a vital place for the resort. It is the place where we discover not only our talents but above all a gathering place full of merriment and pleasures to enjoy winter in good company. »Simon Pagé, director of the Sommets sliding schools.
