Les Sommets group is associated with the Institut national de

secourisme du Québec (INSQ) for the training of its ski patrols.

This training is mandatory for patrolling les Sommets ski hills.

The Requirements

Of The Law

The Institut national de secourisme du Québec is a school approved by the Government of Quebec for the training of ski patrols in alpine skiing.

 

In Quebec, legislation requires a minimum initial training of 56 hours for ski patrols, as well as a minimum annual recertification of 16 hours. Without this training, we cannot practice this profession. Ski resorts must also ensure the continuous presence of certified patrollers on their slopes.

There are 2 different statuses

within les Sommets Ski Patrol team:

Volonteer

 

Patrols only on Saturday and Sunday. Must meet the minimum number of days to patrol the station to be eligible.

Paid

 

Contingent position, according to the annual needs of each sommet. Patrols according to a pre-established schedule, possibly weekdays or weekends.

To patrol one of les Sommets ski hills, you must:

 

 

  • Must be at least 16 years old to attend training and 18 years old to patrol.

 

  • Attend the information session on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

 

  • Attend an initial 56-hour training* (provided by the Institut national de secourisme du Quebec) over 3 weekends on the following dates:

 

1. October 3-4, 2026
2. October 17-18, 2026
3. October 24-25, 2026

 

The training will take place at the versant Avila, located at 500 Avila Road, Piedmont (Quebec) J0R 1K0.

 

* Does not guarantee a place on the Sommets Ski Patrol team. Candidates will be interviewed during the first training weekend.

 

  • Pass the theoretical and practical tests *.

 

* Does not guarantee a place in the Sommets Ski Patrol team. Candidates will be interviewed during the first training weekend.

 

  • Attend the training on internal procedures, which will take place on November 1st, 2026 (weekend) from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the cafeteria of Versant Avila.

 

  • Have an intermediate to advanced ski/board level. An on-snow assessment will take place in December 2026.

You will also need to apply for a position with the Sommets Ski Patrol (link at the bottom of this page).

 

  • October 3rd, 2026

Information session at versant Avila. You will be contacted by Human Resources in September to invite you to this event.

 

  • October 3-4, 17-18, 24-25, 2026

Initial training of 56 hours spread over 3 weekends.

 

  • November 1, 2026

Internal procedures training

 

  • December 2026 (date to be confirmed)

On-Snow evaluation
